The Gatekeepers

In Uncategorized on November 19, 2012 at 11:24 am

In what can only be called an historic achievement, director Dror Moreh has brought together six former heads of the Shin Bet, Israel’s Secret Service, who reflect on their successes and failures to maintain security while responding to the shifting politics and imperatives of the “peace process.” Each man weighs in on topics ranging from preemptive strikes to confronting terrorists both Palestinian and Israeli; their thoughts and responses are candid, well-informed and rarely short of remarkable. An insider’s guide—and what insiders!—to five decades of Israeli history, THE GATEKEEPERS will surely be one of the most widely and hotly discussed films of the year.

An official selection: 2012 Telluride Film Festival, Toronto International Film Festival and  New York Film Festival, THE GATEKEEPERS will be released by Sony Pictures Classics February 1, 2013.

Mea Maxima Culpa: Silence in the House of God is a gripping documentary from Oscar winning director Alex Gibney (Taxi To The Dark Side, Enron: The Smartest Men in the Room), which exposes the abuse of power in the Catholic Church and a cover-up that winds its way from the row houses of Milwaukee Wisconsin, through the bare ruined choirs of Ireland’s churches all the way to the highest office of the Vatican.

The film documents the first known public protest against clerical sex abuse in the US. – long before the crisis in Boston, a struggle of more than three decades that ultimately led to a lawsuit against the Pontiff himself. These heroes, four deaf young men,  set out to expose the priest who had abused them and so many others by trying to make their voices “heard.”   Their investigation helped to uncover documents from the secret Vatican Archives that shows the Pope – who must operate within the mysterious rules of the roman Curia – as both responsible and helpless in the face of evil.

From HBO Documentary Films Mea Maxima Culpa: Silence in the House of God is now playing in theaters and will be broadcast on the cable network February 4, 2013.
