Magnolia Pictures will release The Queen of Versailles on July 20

Directed by lauded filmmaker and photographer Lauren Greenfield, who won the U.S. Directing Award for Documentary Film at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival for this film, The Queen of Versailles is a character-driven documentary about a billionaire family and their financial challenges in the wake of the economic crisis.

With epic proportions of Shakespearean tragedy, the film follows two unique characters, whose rags-to-riches success stories reveal the innate virtues and flaws of the American Dream. The film begins with the family triumphantly constructing the biggest house in America, a 90,000 sq. ft. palace. Over the next two years, their sprawling empire, fueled by the real estate bubble and cheap money, falters due to the economic crisis. Major changes in lifestyle and character ensue within the cross-cultural household of family members and domestic staff.

Peace, Love & Misunderstanding

IFC will release Peace, Love & Misunderstanding on June 8, 2012

Bruce Beresford’s dramatic comedy PEACE, LOVE & MISUNDERSTANDING features a screenplay by Christina Mengert and Joseph Muszynski, and boasts an all-star cast headlined by two- time Academy Award® and Emmy Award winner Jane Fonda, two-time Academy Award® nominee Catherine Keener, Kyle MacLachlan, Elizabeth Olsen, Chace Crawford, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Rosanna Arquette and Nat Wolff.

Fonda makes a triumphant return to the screen working with Australian film veteran Beresford (DRIVING MISS DAISY, TENDER MERCIES, MAO’S LAST DANCER). Together with a wonderful cast, they deliver a heartfelt and funny comedy about reunion and second chances. Diane is a conservative lawyer (Keener) who, after splitting with her husband, takes her two teenage children, Zoe (Olsen) and Jake (Wolff) to meet their estranged, eccentric grandmother Grace (Fonda), the epitome of the term “free spirit” who lives in Woodstock, NY. Her personality was always so immense Diane felt there was rarely any room for anyone else. The film playfully depicts a string of new beginnings founded in letting go of the past. Diane isn’t sure what she came to Woodstock for, but what she finds is an open offer of motherly solace, the chance to bond with her children and perhaps the opportunity to open her heart to someone new. She meets a carpenter/singer/songwriter named Jude (Morgan). He’s handsome, generous, impulsive, and really corny. He also clearly adores her. But is Diane ready for romance? Meanwhile her daughter also meets a local (Crawford) who she connects with.

The Hunter

Magnolia Pictures will release the THE HUNTER theatrically on April 6th and is now available on VOD.

From the producers of ANIMAL KINGDOM, and based on the acclaimed novel by Julia Leigh,  Magnolia Pictures presents THE HUNTER.

While THE HUNTER is a powerful psychological drama, it goes even further to highlight the Darwinian struggle between man and nature, while telling a very timely story. Martin played by Willem Dafoe is  a mercenary hired by a secretive biotech company to hunt for the last surviving Tasmanian tiger in the lush wilderness. Though the tiger has been officially extinct since the 1930s, sightings have been reported intermittently ever since, with no conclusive proof ever produced that the animal still exists. The animal’s disappearance from the ecology of mainland Australia and the Southern Hemisphere is attributed to being hunted by humans, and the tiger’s own legend expertly mirrors the film’s complex themes of conservation, animals living in captivity, selective culling and even cloning. The visually-striking film examines how we can make choices that will either help break the cycle of ecological violence against the planet –and against ourselves– or cause even more destruction and extinction.
